Camps
Windy Hill Farm's summer camps are a great way to be around horses and the stables. Our camps offer 2 lessons daily ($30 value each), games, swimming, snacks (day campers will need to bring their lunch - 3 meals + snacks will be provided to overnight campers), and trail riding. Our farm offers a beautiful riding facility, including indoor and outdoor riding rings, situated on over 300 acres.
Our campers will begin by learning:
- How to conduct yourself safely around horses
- How to safely walk a horse
- How to safely groom and tack a horse
- How to safely wash a horse
- How to clean tack
- Parts of the horse
- Basic veterinary care
- Basic feeding information
- Basic hoof care and farrier work
- The fundamentals of riding, including Hunt Seat, Western, Saddle Seat and Side Saddle
- The fundamentals of hooking and driving a horse to a cart
- The history of the horse
- The history of riding
- The history of the American Saddlebred
- Swimming
- Campers who stay for the week-long overnight camp will receive a free Windy Hill Farm t-shirt. T-shirts will be available for purchase to all other campers.
The camp is open to riders ages 6 to 17. Arrival time for day campers will be 9 a.m. and pickup time will be 4 p.m. M-F.
COST:
$70/day for day campers
- $300 for 3 day/2 night camp
- $550 for 6 day/5 night camp
- $1000 for 2-week camp (includes overnight weekend stay - no riding on Sunday)
ATTIRE:
Campers will need to wear riding clothes for the morning session. Proper riding clothes include long pants or jods, comfortable, fitted t-shirts, and hard-soled shoes or boots. Helmets are advised. Bring a change of clothes such as jeans or shorts, along with a swim suit, towels, sandals and sunscreen. It is advised to schedule one or two lessons prior to camp to give the child a head start. Private lessons are available for $30/lesson.
CAMP DATES:
Day Camps - June 15-16; June 23-26; July 21-24; August 4-8
Overnight Camps - July 14-18; July 27-31, August 1 (available for campers who want to show at the Old Dominion Futurity Benefit Horse Show in the Academy Division)
Day campers may attend and participate in the day events of the overnight camps above.
